Captain’s Portraits at Bramhall Golf Club

Socially Distancing at Bramhall Golf Club

2020 has been quite the year to remember – all for the wrong reasons. As I write this, the Coronavirus pandemic has been with us for the best part of a year. COVID-19 has taken a grip on all of our lives and apart from some personal projects I have not undertaken any commercial photography since the end of March 2020. My upcoming wedding couples have had to deal with the heartache of multiple postponements and all event work had been written off for the year. I have however managed to keep in touch with my wedding couples to follow their plans for rescheduled wedding ceremonies and I look forward to being a part of their special day when it can happen.

I was delighted to be contacted by Bramhall Golf Club asking me to provide my portrait photography services for this year’s captains and committee members. I have taken the official portraits at Bramhall Golf Club for a number of years and I have a great working relationship with them. I have always received a warm welcome here but the first priority was to confirm that we would be in compliance with the government’s current COVID-19 regulations and then to plan how the shoot would take place.

NHS Track and Trace at Bramhall Golf Club

I arrived wearing my face mask, about an hour before shooting was due to begin, signed myself into the venue using the NHS Track and Trace app on my phone. A quick squirt of hand gel followed and I was able to prepare my portable background and meter my light levels, ready for the arrival of my subjects. Everything was set up and I was relaxed when the people turned up. I explained to them how I was going to shoot and I gave clear vocal instructions which minimised any need for me to physically coach their poses. I found that wearing a face covering whilst shooting does impede slightly as the camera viewfinder will fog up after a few seconds being held at eye level but I found that shooting in shorter bursts remedied this.

With the shooting finished, it was time to say goodbye to those I had shot and I gave them time to leave before tearing down my setup and loading the car. Another squirt of hand gel was taken on the way out of the Clubhouse. My shooting hiatus is behind me and I can’t wait for the next opportunity with my camera!
