Wedding – Catherine and Simon at Crewe Hall

Wedding – Catherine and Simon at Crewe Hall

Catherine and Simon both live in Surrey, but chose to travel north to ask me to be their Crewe Hall Wedding Photographer after I was recommended to them by her colleague who works at The Christie Hospital. Their wedding date was only 7 weeks away from when they first enquired, so time really was of the essence to getting everything organised. They were due to meet with their wedding co-ordinator at Crewe Hall so I tagged along for a look around the venue and to gather those all-important details for their date. They were to have around 30 guests and only required around 3 hours of photographic coverage, but of course it is just as important to plan for this scenario as it would be for 300 guests on a full day.

With the timetable sorted and the group shoot list finalised it was only a short wait until their wedding day arrived. A December date meant that the daylight hours would be short. Crewe Hall is a 17th Century Jacobean Mansion house with large areas of oak panelling, and by it’s nature quite a dark venue, so it was important to take advantage of any natural light available and supplement with off-camera flash when appropriate. It was time to put these plans into action as I drove along the tree-lined driveway towards this spectacular building, adorned with countless beautiful features inside and out, not to mention some beautiful ceilings!

Their intimate wedding ceremony took place inside the Great Library, with piano accompaniment by the amazing Liz Hendry followed by a drinks reception in the Hall of Pillars, before heading outside for the confetti walk and group shots. We then headed back inside for some lit portraits in the Chapel and onto the balcony above the Hall of Pillars. It was then time to depart to leave the newlyweds to their wedding breakfast and the rest of their celebrations. A lovely couple in a beautiful setting – what more can you ask for? I can’t wait for my next visit here!
