I’ve been friends with Donna for more than 15 years and she’d always said to me that if she ever got married, I’d be the guy to photograph it. True to form, when she got engaged to her partner Kraig, she asked me to be her Styal Lodge Wedding Photographer. Styal Lodge is a popular wedding venue with a spacious bridal prep suite, an abundance of natural light, a paved garden for portraits and a small lake to the rear of the property. The lovely Laura was the wedding co-ordinator who looked after us all on the day.

Shooting amongst familiar faces can be beneficial for both the photographer and the guests as there aren’t the usual stranger barriers to break down, so the atmosphere throughout the day was perfectly relaxed, with a sprinkling of humour and amongst those familiar faces were previous wedding couples, clients and friends who I particularly enjoyed catching up with. The recent weather conditions had been threatening a rainstorm, but we were blessed with a perfectly calm and dry day so our time could be enjoyed outdoors as well as indoors. The youngsters were kept occupied with an inflatable ball park and slide, which one or two adults couldn’t resist taking advantage of!
Kraig’s family had travelled from the North East to join the celebrations and it was lovely to see all the guests blending so well together. The slightly chaotic bridal prep, the heartfelt ceremony, the busy drinks reception, the banter of the group shots, the epic lakeside portraits, the emotional wedding speeches, the joyous cake cut and romantic first dance – The joy was flowing from start to finish and I’ve never seen so many wedding guests so keen to join the newlyweds on the dance floor as the live band played. All perfect ingredients to a perfect day that was an absolute pleasure to photograph.
